['tʃænlɪȖ, englisch] das, -s/-s, seit den 1960er-Jahren aufgekommene, von Vorstellungen und Praktiken des Spiritismus, von neureligiösen Offenbarungen sowie der angloindischen Theosophie beeinflusste esoterische Bewegung, in der Medien, die sich als »Kanäle« für den Kontakt mit kosmischen oder göttlichen Wesenheiten, (zu höheren Bewusstseinsebenen) »aufgestiegenen Meistern«, geistigen Energien oder Ähnliches verstehen, deren angebliche Botschaften an Einzelne, Anhängergruppen oder ein anonymes (Lese-)Publikum weitergeben. Die außer- beziehungsweise überirdischen »Mitteilungen« (z. B. durch Trance, Träume, automatisches Schreiben erzeugt) spiegeln im Allgemeinen ein säkularisiertes, anthropozentrisches Weltbild wider; ein wichtiges Grundelement der darin entwickelten Lehren ist die Vorstellung einer spirituellen Höherentwicklung des Individuums und letztlich der Menschheit.
